Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still.” Roosevelt showed just how true that was when he brought about many changes to America during his time as president. Roosevelt came into office at the nadir of the Great Depression and, although he couldn't walk, he had to carry the country on his back. Unfortunately, he couldn't do it alone. It took World War II for Roosevelt to finally get the country back on its feet. The depression wasn't the only thing he had to fight. Roosevelt also took a stand against discrimination which helped to unite the country. These are the reasons why Franklin D. Roosevelt made a significant contribution to history.

To start off with, Roosevelt helped relieve America from the Great Depression with the New Deal. During his first one-hundred days in office, Roosevelt pumped out a plethora of bills, all of which congress passed easily. Roosevelt help create jobs by creating agencies like the Public Works Administration, also known as the PWA.
