Frederick Douglass was one of the most famous African-American activists. He used his whole life after slavery trying to get equal right for African Americans. Douglass played a huge part in getting equal rights because his writings and speeches. were so powerful and factual. Douglass was a prominent speaker and author, which really improved his effectiveness. Also, his writings informed whites about the terrors and tragedies of slavery. Since Douglass wrote the narrative, whites obtained more knowledge about slavery. They learned about the life of a slave and how miserable it was to be a slave.
