After finishing this book, I felt that Douglass was more than just a really strong person. His endurance and tenacity allowed him to learn English, become educated and help those who needed help. He is truly an inspiration to us all. He learned at an early age that learning to read was something he needed to learn. When his master forced him to stop learning, Douglass knew education was something important so he learned to read and write from the other white children in his Baltimore neighborhood. Of course, his master didn’t like this and sent Douglass off to be “broken” by a cruel slave owner. This part of the story made me angry. It also makes me think about the unspoken class system we have in the US today. Many people are told to “know
