LeRoy Howard. The man who was smart, funny, and most of all tough. He taught me everything I needed to know in life like my basic math, to always live life to the fullest extent, and most important he taught me to smile no matter how hard life is. He taught me how to be strong, whether physically or mentally. My grandpa was slowly getting sicker, slowly dying, and most of all he was suffering. He got diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) at age 73, ever since then people started coming to Grandma and grandpa's house, at the time I was only 9. I didn't know who those people were and why they were there. One day when I went to their house I noticed a tube on my grandfather's stomach. Later that night, when we were eating dinner, I noticed that Grandpa wasn't eating. It was his favorite dinner sauerkraut and hot dogs and we even had Pickles! He wasn't eating it though, but why? People would ask him how he was and he would always say, “I'm mighty fine!” He said it while smiling. The smile was forced. Weeks past and he now can't talk, so he used an Ipad to communicate. His legs are now starting to weaken. Carpenters were starting to come to his house, they were building a ramp for the house because grandpa has a walker and can't go upstairs anymore.
