Freedom In Phillis Wheatley's Poetry

Words: 172

This is one of Wheatley's most famous poems about her life changing events. This poem gives people a view of freedom in the black nation a freedom that was greatly ignored for too long. Notably, she tries to tell the reader how blacks are just the same as whites and that there is no reason to treat people unfairly. Wheatley is not only describing the struggle of being a different color, but also sharing her faith by having hope in something other than fame or money. Her theme is that God is someone you can put your hope in and not just black, but whites too and with God everyone will love everyone. What Phillis is trying to say is that all are equal in God's eyes and if you accept him you will see that all are.
