The French and Indian War altered the political, economical and ideological relations between Britain and its American Colonies from 1754 to 1763.

At the beginning of the French and Indian War, the French had a plentiful amount of land. By the end of the war, the French had lost their land to the English.(Document A) The reason that the French lost their land to the English is due to the Treaty of Paris. The Treaty of Paris stated that the French would lose all the land they had control over on the mainland. This explains why the French still controlled a small portion of land off the mainland and on an island.

But a soldier from Massachusetts kept a diary in 1759.(Document D) In the diary, the soldier talks about enlistment, cold weather and the confusion. The British militia did not see the Americans as equals and did not think they were a big threat at the time in 1759.

In Massachusetts in 1763 Thomas Barnard rejoiced over the Americans, and especially the New Englanders.(Document E) The French and Indian war had just recently ended the same year. The British begged that they consider them to their majesty, the West Indies wanted tax money.(Document F)

Ben Franklin, who at the time was in London, wrote a letter to John Hughs from Pennsylvania on August 9, 1765. (Document G) In the letter, Ben Franklin states why the Stamp Act should be repealed, considering tax collectors wanted to tar and feather people who owed money.
