Introduction:
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican female artist who was born as Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon on July 6, 1907, in Coyocoan, Mexico City, Mexico. Kahlo was raised in the home where she was born at which was later referred to as Casa Azul meaning “Blue House”. This was her family’s home. Her father was a German photographer who had relocated to Mexico where he met and married her mother. Frida was the third child out of her siblings which all consisted of girls. ( "Frida Kahlo Fans." Frida Kahlo, Biography) When Kahlo was 6, she had caught polio, which had kept her in bed for nine months. Although she was recovering from her illness, she suffered from limping due to the disease damaging her whole right leg and foot. Her father tried to persuade her to play sports such as soccer, going swimming, and even wrestling in hopes of helping her in her recovery. ("Frida Kahlo Biography” Bio.com)

Artist’s Background:
In 1922, Kahlo enrolled at a well known institute called National Preparatory School, and was one of the few female students to attend. She was well known for her cheerful and friendly attitude and love for traditional colorful clothes and accessories. One of them being an oil painting named Las Dos Fridas which she had created in the year 1939. Kahlo took interest in painting self-portraits of herself and she was well known for it. Her work was mostly influenced by personal tragedies, both physical and psychological. She used a realistic painting style to produce images that were both visually and emotionally disturbing. In addition, she was also influenced by her own Mexican-German ancestry, her husband, and Surrealism. This painting can be found displayed at the Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City, Mexico.
