To me this book was a phenomenal read. I fell in love with this book not only because it was soley about football but also all of the drama that came along with the great football imagery. The book is about a High school that is in a small town that only really cares about football. Really that’s what small Texas towns are some people call them football towns and the way the author presented this city he made it seem like this city was the birthplace for football. The author begins the story in Odessa Texas which is mainly known for there oil and their High school Odessa Permian. The book jumps right into two adays which is practice two times a day in the 100 degree heat about two weeks before school and the season starts. The books main characters are the Running back “Boobie Miles”, His uncle, the quarterback “Mike Whinchill, the Fullback “Don Billingsly” and his dad, the strong safety Chavez, and the Head coach “Coach Gary Gaines, The book goes in to great detail about each players lives on the field and off the field. Odessa Permian is known for their state playoffs victory and their state champion ships. Most of the former players and former graduates of Odessa Permian still reside in Odessa. So the whole town is behind the team and really pressures them into winning, because in that town there is no such thing as loosing.
