In the movie End of Watch one of the main theories that plagued the movie was the frustration aggression theory. Many of the actions that the two LAPD officers, Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala, did was out of frustration and anger for the many disturbing inhuman acts of violence. In many events throughout the movie when the two officers felt that the law was effecting their goal of arresting the bad guy, they began to get frustrated and that frustration turned into anger. That anger is why they began to, but not entirely, go outside the bounds of the law.
In the scene where officers Zavala and Taylor get their first call of the day. They go to a man name Mr. Tre house. Mr. Tre is already agitated and aggressive when the two officers walk in. Once they see that officer Taylor says “Hey, hey, hey! Shut your fucking…! You touch me, I will fucking shoot you. You stay where you are”. In that response you can see that he was getting angry, but still maintains control of the situation. Once Mr. Tre began to insult officer Zavala the officer began to get frustrated and wanted to silence him, which was why they were called. You ask yourself why would he do that? Why would he violate his parole in such a manner. These questions lead back to the frustration aggression theory, that aggressive behavior came from somewhere. Although, not specified his aggression could have most likely been a manifestation of he’s frustration. Frustration the derives from the fact that he’s stuck in a box essentially and can’t leave to do whatever goal he for saw himself doing. As stated by the Sargent in the movie “Why didn’t you shoot that son of a bitch, man? You had him dead to rights”. Although, it hardened the officers to see their fellow bother/sister in blue fall they controlled that aggression that we saw earlier on in the
