The Fugitive Slave Act was passed in 1850 and consist of 10 sections. This document made it a crime for any individual who assisted runaway slaves, and the slaves could be arrested. Even where slavery was not allowed, people can still be committing a crime. Those who helps the runaway slaves will get a punishment. These punishments consist of, $1000 fee for every slave helped, a fine, and jail time. Black and White abolitionists still helped slaves escape. A very disputable law over slavery.
