GED Literacy Program for Inmates Education is one of the most important tools to obtain to become successful and a stable life. In today’s world it’s very difficult to find a job because companies require certain set of skills, higher education, background check, and no criminal record. People that committed crimes in their past have a difficult chance to get a job. Inmates or Felons are more likely not to have a high school diploma after they serve their time in prison. The General Education Program is very important for inmates because they have a second chance to become people outside of jail. Inmates learn a lot of material and how to become critical thinkers, because of the help and motivation from the instructor. Inmates and Ex offenders become brighter people, gain skills and are more confident about themselves which leads to reduction of recidivism. What sets apart of education provided in correctional institutions has a major impact for inmates ability to earn a General Equivalency Diploma while they are serving their time. It has been suggested that prisoners and ex offenders have better access to education and become highly successful in many awards related to education in small environment places. Educational Programs are meant to be designed to plan guidelines for successful therapeutic facilities. Education brings a different perspective to many people including inmates. Inmates are more likely to further their education and earn a college degree. Education changes the way inmate’s think about life because they want better not just for them but their family. Pursuing an education can make up some of the damages or crimes the inmate committed; it can give some sense and new opportunity for a clean slate and move forward in life. Some inmates are more likely to pursue a college degree because they want to provide for their family, and are more likely to find a stable job. High numbers of inmates who participate in the Literacy Program while incarcerated are less likely to return to prison. On the other hand, those who refuse the Literacy Program have higher chances to return to prison. Researchers have discovered that in the correctional facility in Massachusetts inmates who took college program while in jail were less likely to return to jail within five years. The Literacy program is been proven to be a highly successful program in reducing recidivism. The earning of a GED has a positive impact on felons and recidivism rates, as well as return to custody. Underage inmates with a GED program has been proven that 40% return to prison within 36 months compared to 54% of underage inmates with no GED or High School Diploma. Ex felons are more likely to commit crimes because they live day by day. Companies as well as many other job don’t want to risk of hiring an ex felon. Companies don’t want to hire felons depending on the crime they’ve committed or can be issue with the employees. Ex felons don’t have the same opportunity like other people. However, some felons are less likely to return to prison because they earned their GED and are more likely to find a job. Education opens many opportunities and for those who were in jail as well.
