Veterans of the Global War or Terrorism (GWOT) are defined as individuals who serve or have served in military expeditions to combat terrorism on or after September 11, 2001 and before a terminal date yet to be established. Includes: Operation Enduring Freedom, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. (US Department of Veterans Affairs) Military members serving in GWOT ranged from 18-35 years of age, approximately 59% of those deployed were married, those serving were from active, reserve and National Guard Units. The length of deployment varies amongst the branches and the time period in which they deployed. From here I would gather a random sampling and determine eligibility for the assessment. Questions that I would use to screen eligible candidates are:
1. Years of military service
2. Currently military service status
3. Dates of deployments and length
4. Current address, are they currently residing in the local area
5. What theater area was the individual deployed too
These questions would be used to identify GWOT veterans in the local area, from here I would conduct telephone screenings to ensure that the individuals meet the criteria to participate in the assessment. Any individuals without deployment experience or not currently residing in the local area would not be used for the assessment. I would set the amount of time that the assessment or survey would be conducted, in order to adequately compile data. This is essential to ensure that any proposals for improvement are accurate. Questionaries’ would be formed for participants to complete, in addition to the participant completing the questionnaire I would ask that any available immediate family members complete the survey as well. I would like to also see how mental illness has affected the family unit as well as the Veteran.

Once I have compiled data from these demographics, I would do a further break down, by gender and marital status. I would go this route because I am curious as to whether seeking care could be dependent on gender or even marital status. Females are traditionally raised knowing that it is ok to show emotion and ask for help, whereas the opposite is taught to males. I feel that those individuals who have families may feel that they have the support to willingly seek help without fear of a negative
