Galileo : Math Research Paper Science was not important until one man changed the way people . Galileo was born on February 15, 1564. Galileo was said to be the father of science and eventually changed how it was viewed, but in his lifetime he was viewed as a troublemaker. During this time Galileo was creating controversy between the church and science. The controversy was about the church’s beliefs about the world being geocentric, which was the Aristotelian view. This came about because Galileo was very interested in astronomy. His discovery that the earth orbits around the sun was important because it changed the importance of science.

The church did not even look through the telescope because it was against their religion. Galileo used a telescope that wasn’t his own to look at many things. By using this telescope Galileo discovered many things while studying the planets. Galileo first saw Jupiter, which he thought was, stars at first. “When he realized that the stars were actually going around Jupiter, it negated a major argument of the Ptolemaic model.” (Iowa State U) He also observed through his telescope that the moon has craters. Back then people went by what the church said. The church did not really believe in science. Galileo told the church that the earth was heliocentric. “Galileo could have safely proposed heliocentricity as a theory or a method to more simply account for the planets’ motions”. During 1623 and 1632, the pope decided to allow Galileo to write and teach about the Copernican Theory. Galileo published a book during this time. The book was called Two Chief world Systems. This book was about 3 different people's points of view about the copernican theory. His problem arose when he stopped proposing it as a scientific theory and began proclaiming it as truth, though there was no conclusive proof of it at the time.” (Catholic.com) When they heard this idea, they declared heliocentric heretical. Heresy means to go against your own religion. All of his books about heliocentric were banned and Galileo was sent to jail. Galileo was then put on house arrest until his death in 1642. Galileo was also not allowed to teach for 7 years and was not allowed to write or teach about the copernican
