For our Thursday P.M. book, I read with Mimi and Margey. We were reading The Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen. Gary Paulsen has written many books for a younger audience. Some of these books are: The Winter Room, Hatchet, and Dogsong. Those three books have won the Newbery Honor award. He has another novel, The Haymeadow. That book has won the Western Writers of America Golden Spur Award. Gary Paulsen has published fiction and nonfiction books for adults too. The Transall Saga is a science fiction novel. Gary Paulsen and his wife, Ruth Wright Paulsen, live in New Mexico, along the Pacific Ocean. The Transall Saga starts with the main character, Mark Harrison, going on a camping trip at Magruder Missile Range by himself at thirteen-years-old. …show more content…
During the mission the leader, Tukha, died. Mark woke up in the middle of the night a few nights later greeted with the smell of smoke. The meeting hut was on fire. There were many men from a different tribe causing the chaos. Leeta and Mark were captured by the men and taken to their tribe's camp on a rope attached to horses. They were still on their trip with the Tsook. Many of the captives had died. The leader, Dagon, gave all the orders. During the trip Leeta became injured, and Sarbo almost killed her, but Mark would not let him. As they were becoming closer to the tribe, they were greeted with a young woman with long black hair. Dagon went straight to hug her. The girl’s name was Megaan. Mark had finally made it to the Tsook tribe. Mark was brought to a house in the back of the tribe area. He dug his way out . He had now escaped and ran. The warriors were after him. He was caught. As punishment, he wore steel bands around his ankles.Mark had many injuries, so Dagon’s daughter, Megaan, attended to him. He overheard Dagon saying he was going to attack the Rawhaz, cannibals who slaughtered the Tsook. Mark had escaped again, and he knew that he would have to leave Leeta
