In the short story,”Seventh Grade,” by Gary Soto,Victor is a junior high boy who is trying to hard to get a girl. He took french just to be in the same class as her. In the story it said, ”Besides ,Teresa, a girl he had liked since they had catechism classes together last year was taking french too. This shows that he is not thinking about what would be good for him. The only thing he was thinking about was Teresa. He also stayed back in the classroom so he could bump into her on his way out. The book said, “He wanted to leave the same time she did so he could bump into her and say something clever.
