Most of the fictional trilogies that we read, we notice that the auther actually is poiting out to a modern life society. are related to a moder day society in a way or another. They try to make it easy on the reader to comprehend. However, Suzann Collins remarkably points so many things out in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire that are hard to ignore; such as, the Capitol’s obsession and how we are similar to them in real life. She reminds us of what the world is coming to. She also brings us back to how in danger the futures of our kids are going to be. Speaking of the future and the real world, we are not different from the people of the Capitol. We are very selfish and busy having our noses in other people’s businesses. The lives of the celebrities are a dead giveaway of how the society is a Capitol as a whole. Consequently, we spend most of our time obsessing about celebrities like they are Gods and not realizing that they actually are normal human beings just like we are. We don't even realize how our obsession can hurt them and put their lives in danger. The Capitol is the exact same way. They want everything televised, they cherish the victors just like they made a huge deal out of Katniss’ and her mockingjay and they made it their symbol. Teenagers and young kids nowadays have cellphones, iPads, laptops, and more that they can use to easily get the latest updates about the singers or the actors they love. They have social media such as Twitter, Instagram and many more. It is not hard to follow or add any famous celebrities on social media. Scrolling down one can read millions of love, sarcastic and hate comments under whatever they’ve posted. If that post was interesting enough, it’ll make it to TMZ, celebrity news and it’ll become viral. It of course will get criticized more and more. Just like when Kim Kardashian posted her own nudes on Instagram saying “ break the internet”, it went viral. Although it was disturbing and nothing appropriate to like or give attention to, people still obsessed over it. In Katniss’ and Peeta’s case, there were no cellphones but their lives were on the screens of the Capitol most of the time. A sign of the Capitol’s obsession would be when Peeta announced Katniss’ pregnancy. Their reaction was beyond ridiculous. Just like it says, “Caesar can’t rein the crowd again, not even when the buzzer sounds[….] I can see Caesar’s lips moving, but the place is in total Chaos and I can’t hear a word” (Catching Fire 257). Imagine how all of this attention mentally impacted Peeta and Katniss and how they felt about the games. The people of the Capitol were going crazy. They are so attached to the star crossed lovers. It is impossible that the “three” or one of them is going to die. If Katniss dies, they won’t be able to see the baby. Peeta was lying. It was just a way that people of the Capitol might have canceled the games or it was just a good way to get sponsors. Comparing to reality, just like it is mentioned, “The recent passing of Whitney Houston came as a shock in part because of her age, but also because celebrity deaths often feel a bit impossible” (Sternheimer). We are naïve and brainwashed just like the people of the Capitol are. Hence, we don't really know what goes on behind the scenes of the lives of these celebrities. We believe in rumors, spread them and hurt these people which doesn't make us less like the Capitol. Looking at what female celebrities wear and the way they look have great abilities to attract us. They grab our attention like magnets. Celebrities sure have a lot of money and personal trainers so they look good all the time. People don't think that photoshop exists or that some of these good looking celebrities starve themselves to look as thin. They do all of that because they know people think they are perfect. They get the need to look the way we want them to. They are almost forced because they know that is the only way to meet our
