From 1965 to 1985
 Gatorade was developed in 1965 by a team of scientists at the University of Florida
 The name of Gatorade is a reference to the Gators, the University of Florida football team
 The goal of those scientists was to help the Florida players improve their performance in sweltering heat and stay hydrated
 The original version of the beverage was a mixture of water, sodium, phosphate, and then lemon juice

From 1965 to 1985 (continued)
 The players tested it during practices and games and they began to win
 Word about Gatorade began to spread outside of the state of Florida and quickly gained national interest
 For nearly 20 years Gatorade consisted of a single product line: Gatorade Thirst Quencher

From 1985 to now
 Starting 1988 to late 1990s other flavors, such as watermelon, cherry rush, strawberry kiwi, and so on, became available
 In 1998 Gatorade switched to plastic containers to get the drink into new environments
 By the end of 2000, Gatorade was already available in 47 countries  In 2001 PepsiCo acquired Gatorade for $13 billion

From 1985 to now (continued)
 By 2010 Gatorade products reached more than 85 countries including China and Russia
 In 2010, the company re-branded itself around the G Series
 As of today, Gatorade accounts for about 80 percent market share in the sports drink category
 It is the official sport drink of the NBA, NFL, Major
League Baseball, Major League Soccer, and other professional organizations and teams around the world
