Is one capable of changing your social class? Is any human able to rise up above their initial social class and become something that is better than what they came into this world as? If so, is changing social class be the right thing to do? In The Great Gatsby, social class is a main focal point of the book. Social classification is the basis of your whole life, and what defines a person. It is impossible for one to change their social class, because they will never fit into the class they desire to be in. They will never belong, because one cannot simply change who they are in the middle of their life. People are born into a specific social class, and it sticks with them for the rest of their lives.
Some people may say that it is absolutely possible to climb up the ranks of social classes. They are fed with positivity and encouragement throughout their younger stages of life. “Anything is possible.” “The sky’s the limit.” These are examples of what all of society hears as they grow up. Truth be told, this is not the case when it comes to who you are, because in reality you cannot become something you aren't.
