In the novel The Grapes of Wrath at times men must act like women, and women like men. In society, gender roles play such a large part, that it has created stereotypes. For example people believe men should be out doing work, while the woman stays home. There are many more examples however the point is that usually gender roles only have one set of pattern except when absolutely needed. Uncle Jon is an excellent example of a man acting like a woman.
He let out his emotional side because he was troubled, not only does he feel horrible about his wife's death, but his friend Casy took the blame for something he didn't do against the deputy. This shows that men can also show a sensitive side of them. However he still does show the man side by drinking
