While reading “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros, there are strong gender stereotypes implied from this author that show the dangers of living as a woman in this time period on Mango Street. The main character, Esperanza, has been affected harshly by these stereotypes as they have shaped her into a different person who is now cautious and aware of what could happen to her and what she is expected to do being a girl in her town. Sandra Cisneros really wants to express to us how difficult life was on Mango Street and she made it easy for the reader to understand and put themselves in situations that Esperanza has been in during the novel.
