Social work has a wide range of broad methods and fields. Methods are the different theories and/or models a social worker uses to help assist their client. As general practitioners, social workers use theories/models to assist their client. An example of a model a social worker typically uses would be the he General Intervention Model (GIM). GIM is a model where practioners use a problem-solving, planned approach in order to resolve issues that occued in the systems. The steps include engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination, and follow-up. During step one, engagement, the social worker tries to build rapport with client. Micro level focuses on the individuals and families, mezzo level focuses on the groups and organizations, macro level focuses on the community. On the micro level case management would be the most appropriate field agency when working with this population and issue. Case management is a process of assessing the individual’s total situation and addressing the needs and problems found in that assessment (Summers, 2015). To guarantee the client receives the necessary services the case manager has four basic tasks: assessment, planning, linking, and monitoring. During the assessment task the case manager’s askes a series or relevant questions to help identify the client’s needs/problems. The next task, planning, requires the case manager and client to collaborate to establish specific goals to help resolve any problems that arose during the assessment task. During the task, linking, the case manager connects the client to the necessary agencies that can accommodate their problems. Lastly, the task monitoring, requires the case manage to reach out to the agency to get updates on their clients progress, if any. On the mezzo level a mental health agency would be most appropriate in this case. In Baltimore, Maryland there are several mental health agencies. For instance, the ABA Health services is a provider of mental health, psychiatric rehabilitation services, therapeutic behavioral services, psychological testing, and counseling services (http://www.abahealthservices.com/).
