Overview of Organizations

I will be doing my course project on General Motors and the Chrysler Group. I have decided to use these companies to discuss the changes that each company endured during the most recent credit-driven recession. The automobile industry was one of the most effected sectors during that recession. Chrysler and General Motors were pushed into bankruptcy and 276,000 jobs in the automobile and parts industry were destroyed. That equates to a whopping 36 percent of the total employment in the sector (CHU. T.H. & YINGZI, 2010).
General Motors Company designs, manufactures, and markets cars, crossovers, trucks, and automobile parts worldwide (General Motors). The company markets its vehicles primarily under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brand names. (General Motors ). Chrysler Group LLC, designs, engineers, manufactures, distributes and sells vehicles under the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and FIAT brands, and the SRT performance vehicle designation (Chrysler Holding LLC.).
Changes in recent years
Both companies in the last 25 years have undergone major facelifts ranging from filing bankruptcy, implementing new leaderships and names changes (Miel, 2014).
