Genetic engineering is when scientist manipulate an organism's genetic code to create something much different from the original organism. Examples of genetic engineering are everywhere from hollywood movie concepts to creating types of food that do not spoil as quickly. Genetic engineering is in our everyday lives but eugenics is when scientist try to improve the human population instead of just things we eat and animals. Eugenics was developed by scientist Francis Galton who wanted to create a human with the most desirable traits basically creating the perfect being. The movie I chose to discuss is Splice a forign horror film directed and written by Vincenzo Natali . The creator sheds body parts in an attempt to escape when they try to destroy it, but they just subdue it. They discover that she is aging at an immensely accelerated rate. Elsa discovers the creature is experiencing mental development such as that of a human child, Elsa names the hybrid "Dren." Elsa begins to have an unhealthy obsession with her creation and refuses to let her partner Clive destroy it. Dren the experiment begins to crave meat and attacks Elsa, Elsa then removes Dren's stinger hoping to make Dren less dangerous. Dren then lures Clive, Elsa discovers them having sex in the barn and becomes disturbed. Clive accuses Elsa of never wanting a "normal" child because of her concern of losing power. Instead Elsa chooses to raise one as an experiment, where power could be guaranteed. Determining the only answer is to kill Dren, they return to the farm and find Dren already dying. William Barlow a scientist who also works with Elsa and Clive discovers human DNA in Dren's protein samples and begins to investigate more into their side experiments.
