If the world does not end genocide, genocide will end the world. The definition of genocide is “acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group(Document B).” Genocide was deemed an international crime by the United Nations in 1948 after the Holocaust. Since then, genocide has still happened in many parts of the world like Cambodia, Rwanda, and East Timor. Situations like these press the question, “can the world resolve the problem of genocide?” The world cannot resolve the problem of genocide because the UN does not immediately address a genocide, governments fail to prevent acts of genocide, and communities do not speak out.

The definition of cohesion is, “The action or fact of forming a united whole.” When asked who to blame for the Holocaust many would put Adolf Hitler or the Nazi soldiers at direct fault. However, that may not be the case. At the end of the day, the responsibility for a genocide should not only be put on the international community, not only on the governments that failed to prevent and stop the genocide, but to every single person who stood around and watched the genocide happen. Every single person who did not speak out and say that what is happening, whether it be genocide or ethnic cleansing, is wrong. The main reason the Holocaust wasn't stopped is that the people of Germany did not accept other ethnic communities such as Jews and other groups killed in the Holocaust into their community and along with that, subconsciously took away the first article of universal human rights from their minds for the Jews, that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights(Document E). The people of Germany began to see Jews as a different species, as sub-human. With this, the Nazis were able to violate article five, “no one should be subjected to torture, or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment(Document E).” These examples summarize why communities without cohesion are the source of human incompetence with the ability to …show more content…
