The purpose of writing this researched critical analysis is to demonstrate how gentrification is affecting the long term Harlemites from the perspective of displacement, Cultural identity and education and crime rates. Harlem has changed dramatically over time due to the improvement in housing stocks and private investments. In the research paper, I addressed both the positive and negative aspect of gentrification. However, I articulated my argument towards how gentrification is affecting the cultural identity of Harlem. Additionally, My audience would be not only the low income indigenous Harlemites who has been displaced or on the verge of displacement because of their economic status, but also ordinary Harlemites that are concerned about losing Harlem’s Culture. I tried to reach broader audience by discussing the positive effects of gentrification such as decrease in crime rates and improvement in education to attract reader that have mixed emotions about consequences of gentrification. …show more content…
The databases are not user friendly and easy to navigate as small Changes in search terms can produce misleading results. I followed the workshops instructions carefully and implemented the techniques I learned from Prof Gibbons to minimize the search content. Hence, I found five scholarly articles and four articles from the course packet to start my research paper. In the rough draft, I mostly discussed gentrification in general and its effects on displacement because my sources were not related to Harlem gentrification. In doing so, I failed to support my thesis on gentrification and cultural identity. Thanks to Prof Poltrack feedback, I reorganized my paper and did additional research that specifically connects with
