It is a frequently asked why doe Japan have more earthquakes. There are so many earthquakes in Japan because the country is in what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire which is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire has 452 volcanoes and is home to over a lot of the worlds active and dormant. Another reason why Japan has so many earthquakes is because there are so many different tectonic plates (layers of the earth's crust) underneath it and each plate keeps rubbing with the other plates. Earthquakes cause a bit of damage but not a lot in Japan, this is because they have happened lots of times so people in Japan have managed create buildings that probably won't get destroyed by an earthquake. Japan also has an Earthquake and tsunami warnings which are basically alarms so they knew when an earthquake most houses in Japan are made out of cheap, light materials so they won't kill people who are inside.

On the other hand Britain only has few minor earthquakes because the country is not in the edge of the plate boundary or near any. Japanese earthquake:
An earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter Scale struck off Japan's north-east coast, about 250 miles (400km) from Tokyo at a depth of 20 miles. The magnitude 9.0 earthquake happened at 2:46pm (local time) on Friday March 11, 2011. The earthquake occurred 250 miles off the North East Coast of Japan's main island Honshu. Japan is located on the eastern edge of the Eurasian Plate. The Pacific Plate, which is an oceanic plate, moves under the Eurasian Plate, which is a continental plate, to the
