George Orwell has conflicted between his rational and intuitive thinking. Throughout his writing, he illustrated the effects of imperialism from the perspectives of the oppressor and the oppressed. Although as the oppressor, he felt that “ imperialism was an evil thing” he practiced it and hated being ridiculed by the oppressed for doing so most of all. When he shot the animal he ignored his instincts that told him killing the animal was wrong and focused on the “devilish roar of glee that went up from the crowd.” By doing this, he compromised his intuition to what he deemed rational to save face.

Orwell was ashamed of the way the natives taunted him and his cowardice when it came to doing what he believed was right against the expectations
