History is important, for we look back on it. There are so many great people and things that help make it what it is today. There were people like George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, John Jay, James Madison, and John Adams who set the standards and rules for what to do in their positions. Back in the late 1700s and the early 1800s, many decisions were made that created impact on America today. George Washington, well known around the world as the nation's first president, inaugurated on April 30, 1789. Unlike all of the other presidents, Washington was chosen to be the president, based off what he has already accomplished in the revolution. He himself was a living precedent, for he was the first, and set an example for the next leaders to come. He set a very important precedent at the end of his second term. The first presidential cabinet consisted of the Department of War, Secretary of State, Office of attorney general, postmaster general, and Secretary of Treasury. In the department of war was Henry Knox. The secretary of state was Thomas Jefferson. Edmund Randolph, was the first office attorney General, and the postmaster general was Samuel Osgood. John Adams was elected as the second president in 1796. During his term many things occurred. One was trouble with France, when they decided to take American ships, becauses they felt Jay’s treaty favored the British, so Adams sent diplomats to France to avoid way, and Charles Maurice de Talleyrand sent 3 agents to meets America’s diplomats and offer up a deal. The offer was denied, and the agents were never named, just referred to X, Y, and Z, and this event is known as the XYZ
