Each letter is a primary source because they are historical documents. The George Washington to Dr. Baker letter is primary because the particular document was captured by British troops and also has his signature at the end of the letter. The John Andre to Joseph Stansbury letter was to aid Benedict Arnold so they could relay the information secretly. Also, John Andre had some specific instructions on the thing they needed to pick up when Arnold was being a spy. The second letter with Benedict Arnold to John Andre was to aid as well because he provided the British with information about movements of the American and French troops. The letters play a big role in understanding events and US History as a whole because it has been as many events that has happened throughout time and letters like these help with knowing the full background with what happened. These letters are very specific and has tons of information in them that you can feed off of.
