A well-known fact for all Americans is that George Washington was the United States' first president. Washington’s presidency lasts two terms, but back then the people did not know how long the presidents should govern. After George Washington finished his second term he decided to step down, allowing the public to elect a new president in office, which was John Adams. His announcement of resigning was publicized to the public on September 19, 1796, it is referred to everyone as Washington's Farewell Address. This Address allowed him the opportunity to let the nation know what was happening in the government and to prepare or warn the nations of what could happen in the future.
George Washington's Farewell Address informed future generations to avoid any arguments in the matter of other nations. Washington warns and prepares the country that they need to focus more on making the government efficient and free from foreign affairs. However, when his Address was announced the French Revolution was happening and even though he was stepping down from his presidency he decided to remain neutral. Consequently, the decision to stay neutral was composed because Washington knew that the United States lacked military experience and weapons; no one was prepared to be a part of the war and go against trained soldiers in the other

George Washington was the first president of the United States, but he had no rules or guidelines of how to be president, so writing his Farewell Address was like writing down rules for the future presidents to follow. He understood the power he had and knew that if he gave rules people will take his advice. George Washington passed on so much of his knowledge to future generations, because of Washington this independent country has been able to thrive for
