In the mid 1700’s, lived an Anglican Clergyman who traveled the Americas spreading the word of God to the people. This minister’s name was George Whitefield. He started Evangelism which was a movement within Protestant Christianity that spread the authentic ideas from the gospel. He received extensive recognition during his ministry and preached around 18,000 times. His audiences were so intrigued because of his performance by using a combination of drama, religious rhetoric, and imperial pride in his preaching. Other than royalty, he was perhaps the only living person whose name would have been recognized by any colonial American. One of which is that he wasn’t just a preacher, but he was also charitable. “The sight of their miserable situation inspired the benevolent heart of Mr. Whitefield with the idea of building an Orphan House there, in which they might be supported and educated” stated by Benjamin Franklin in Document A which illustrates the selfless acts Whitefield did for other people.
