Summary On Wednesday, April 5th I watched the show, Supernatural. The title of the episode was, “Ghost Facers.” This is a fictional T.V. drama – not based off true events. These are character generated sounds of ghosts and their presences. Sam and Dean Winchester are brothers who have lost both their parents. Their dad was a ghost/paranormal hunter. As they find out their father has died on a job, they decide to pick up where he has left off and continue hunting ghosts/demons to make the world a brighter and safer place. In this particular episode, Sam and Dean star in a reality television show, “Ghost Facers.” The Ghost Facers team includes college aged kids trying to hunt and find paranormal activity. First, the genre theory which is shown as a fictional T.V. drama in this particular show. There are many different genres all throughout media. I will be addressing how the show displays drama as its genre. Second, patriarchal ideology which is the premise of ideology that males are superior to females because they are biologically superior. Males use their authority to create good and justice. Men are logical and women are emotional (Teacher Notes, Patriarchal Ideology). I am going to discuss how the men were ruling over the one women is displayed in the show. Third, race in television, which displays the media appointing “leaders” to speak for all the people of the racial over stereotypical group. Also, the media marginalizes minority contributions or perspectives. And the media presents stereotypes as the norm (Teacher Notes Race & T.V., media has 3 roles to play). Kohut postulated that humans have a psychological need to feel a kinship or alikeness with other people. People with whom we feel kinship are said to be self-objects.
