Sculpture is one of the oldest and most enduring of all the arts. There are several different types of sculpture like; carving, modeling, casting, construction and assemblage, installation art, and earthworks. Also, there is two basic processes, subtractive and additive. Its three forms of sculptural space, relief, environment, or in-the-round. The sculpture that interest me is The Capture of the Sabine Women, 1583 by Giambologna. I think this sculpture is in the process of subtractive because it begins with a mass of material larger than the finished work and removed material. That makes carving a subtractive process. They look like they’re just modeling and being dramatic. This is one of my favorite sculpture. This a statue of whom already graced the space so he suggested that he would choose Andromeda, which was Perseus wife. It was a narrative theme. It also could be (“The Rape of Sabines). The founders of ancient Rome, was unable to find wives among their neighbors. This lady look like she is trying to escape and yelling for help from them men. The Sabines were scared because if the Romans was becoming more powerful and that would’ve caused the city to increase. Therefore, they refused to let women leave. The Sabines, tricked the whole tribe into visiting Rome for a festival and then took its women by force. In my opinion, this is a nice sculpture, but the meaning of it is wrong, but then again it shows how the women were treated back then. He did a good job carving the statue. Its sculptural genius in uniting three figures that turns into one single spiral composition. For us to see more of what is happening, we would have needed to be both physically and emotionally in the scene it
