This chapter is a lot to take in and shows us deep into Jon’s life. The chapter starts with Dr. Manhattan on mars as stares at a photo of Janey Slater and himself at an amusement park. Then flashback to August 7th, 1945 where sixteen-year-old Jon Osterman is examining his father’s old pocket watch. His father enters with news that the Atomic Bomb has been dropped on Hiroshima, and that his lifetime spent as a watchmaker has been a waste and he doesn’t want that for Jon and forces him into the physics field. Cut to May 12th, 1959 it’s Jon’s fist day at Gila Flats. Wally weaver shows him around and he takes him to a bar where he meets Janey. Jon offers to fix Janey watch but has left his coat in the I.F. chamber and goes to get it, nut proves to be a big mistake. He goes to retrieve it, but gets locked in and Dr. Glass, his mentor, can’t override the system, and Jon is vaporized. …show more content…
He and Janey get back together but I feel that their relationship will never be the same. He then gets the name Dr. Manhattan from the media. Transition to 1966, as Jon shows up at the first Crimebusters meeting that we see in chapter 2. Jon’s relationship with Janey gets worse as he is spending more time with Laurie, and eventually Janie leaves. Jon’s father dies in 1969 without ever knowing Dr. Manhattan was his son and Gila Flats closes. After this point the story moves very quickly. Laurie moves in with Jon, and President Nixon asks him to end the war in Vietnam. Jon runs into Edward Blake in Saigon and they both work for the government. In 1975, President Nixon amends the Constitution, and runs for a third
