Gilgamesh being a king the people had to have had him already on a higher platform than themselves, as some would do with a hero. The King was not always as kind as he was perceived, the Gods thought he was arrogant as well as too proud of everything he did so they sent him Enkidu. Gilgamesh befriended him, eventually they fought a battle together against the giant Humbaba ending his life. Unlike Beowulf, Gilgamesh did not go into the battle out of selflessness he went into the battle for a selfish reason, fame. A hero does not do something just for themselves, they want to benefit other people. Humbaba was not really doing anything wrong, he was just doing his job that was appointed to him by the Gods. There was no real reason to attack Humbaba,
