The show Gilmore Girls focuses on the mother and daughter relationship between Lorelei and Rory Gilmore (Sherman-Palladino, 2000). Although from an affluent family, Lorelei chose to raise her daughter on her own when she became pregnant at the age of sixteen. The mother-daughter duo live in the small town of Stars Hollow where everything is idealistically perfect. The quiet small-town charm can be seen throughout the series as many residents wander the streets greeting each other by name and meeting up at the local diner. As Rory ages, she attends Chilton, an elite private school, which then prepares her for her future alma matter, Yale University. Logan first appears in the series in college and would be around the age of seventeen. During this time, he seems to be in preconventional reasoning specifically the “individualism, instrumental purpose, and exchange stage” (stage two). His actions at this time are very egocentric and arrogant. When interacting with others he seems to have a very “high and mighty” attitude. This attitude indicates that he can do no wrong. He is also an active member of “The Life and Death Brigade”. During this time, there is an event for the lucrative secret society. This event involved a somewhat dangerous stunt that required members to jump off a high platform with umbrellas. While they were attached to bungee cords, this was still a risky task since there was no professional set up. While there was risky behavior involved in “The Life and Death Brigade”, there was also an exchange that included the lavish parties. This exchange of dangerous stunts and extravagant parties made “The Life and Death Brigade” a worthwhile cause to Logan. During this time, he was also engaging in risky sex as he was involved with multiple women at the same time. Rory stated that he had “over one hundred girls on speed dial.” He even had an extra robe in his apartment for his overnight guests. However, commitment was not something he could do. He was self-proclaimed “not boyfriend material” which is how he justified his behavior. Although he seemed to treat his sexual encounters with respect, he was receiving something in return so he saw nothing wrong with his sleeping with a multitude of partners. It was also during this time that he pulled a prank on Rory. Logan and other members from “The Life and Death Brigade” caused a scene in the middle of a class she was taking.
