Giovanni da Verrazzano is an Italian explorer and Giovanni wanted to explore the New World. Giovanni was born around 1485 near Val di Greve, Italy. Giovanni only had one brother and his brother’s name is Girolamo da Verrazzano. Giovanni’s parents are called Piero Andrea di Bernardo da Verrazzano and Fiammetta Capelli.
Giovanni da Verrazzano would sometimes go to France between the year 1507 and 1508 when he met King of France. Giovanni also came in contact with the French navy and began to feel for the navy’s mission when Giovanni went to France. The King of France fell behind in the exploration when reports were coming from the New World with riches. The King of France began planning to send somebody to the New World for riches. The four ships were called Delfina, The Santa Maria, Normanda, and Vittoria. There was a storm at the sea and the Santa Maria and Vittoria were lost in the storm, while the other boats found their way into battle with the Spanish ships. The Defina headed to the New World in January 17, 1524. Giovanni da Verrazzano wanted to explore North America to find a route to the Pacific. Giovanni da Verrazzano thought by sailing along the Northern Coastline of the New World, Giovanni would find a passageway to the west coast of North America. The men aboard in the Delfina ship with Giovanni sighted land after 50 days in sea. Giovanni steered his ship south and turned and headed north never losing sight of the coastline until a storm pushed him toward Martha’s Vineyard.
