Girl Drinking from a Seashell is not shy from eye candy. Edward Francis McCartan, the artist that designed this gorgeous sculpture, designed her in the year 1915. Casted in bronze, this sculpture is just one of two. The other sculpture within this "Drinking" series is located in Hermitage Museum of Gardens in Virginia. From first glance she definitely will remind you of Donatello's, David, sculpture. Not only because they are both done in bronze, but both figures are relaxed bare bodies, with nothing on except for something within their hair. Her eyes though, on the other hand, are carved inward. The iris of her eye sinks in and the pupil kind rests on top. If you have ever seen contact lenses up close before, you’ll see this dome/cup shape that has the same curve as the eye. Well, her eyes remind me of a reverse contact, just by the way the curvature of her eye dents in. Her body form is absolutely stunning. Just by judging her youthful appearance and breast size, you can tell she is quite young. The sculpture is so life-like, I seriously was tempted to go up and embrace this sculpture when I was at the museum. The feet and hands are rendered to perfection. The left hand has a beautifully curved finger that is very natural looking. Personally, her pose reminds me a lot of the painting "Birth of Venus". Aesthetically this is a very pleasing sculpture to gaze at. She looks about my size, but then again, she is not standing straight up. Sadly, her measurements are not specified within the description at the museum. Girl Drinking from a Seashell is propped on to a platform to elevate her, so our eyes are oriented upward.
