What is the cause of Global Warming? Is global warming manmade? That is the question that a lot of people around the world would like to know. For many years scientists have been trying figuring out what is causing global warming. What is global warming? Well, according to The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Global warming is an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface and in the troposphere, which can contribute to changes in global climate patterns. The United Nations has formed a group of scientists called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. One of the first things scientists learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for warming, and humans help to contribute to them in a variety of ways. What are greenhouse gases? Well according to Webster Dictionary it is a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation, e.g. carbon dioxide. Some of the ways that were found that humans contribute are: burning gases, oils and coils that can come from a range of industrial textile plants, heating our homes or even down to the vehicles that we drive. By driving cars, using electricity from coal-fired power plants, or heating our homes with oil or natural gas, we release carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. Another source that helps to contribute to global warming is the cutting down of the earth’s forests. Fewer trees mean less carbon dioxide conversion to oxygen. In the year of 1800 the industrial revolution began and started heating the atmosphere by pouring heat-trapping CO2 gas into the atmosphere by burning coal and other fossil fuels, and by other industrial-scale activities including clearing of forests, which also release large amounts of CO2.
