If you ask me what the most pressing environmental issue of today is I would definitely say global warming. Yes, it may seem like a lazy choice or such a broad answer, but global warming is very important and its affecting us more and more everyday weather everyone wants to admit it or not. I know a lot of people want to say global warming isn’t real but it is, hopefully we all realize that sooner than later. A broad definition of global warming is the rise in the average temperature of earth’s atmosphere and oceans. By now I’m sure everyone is probably tired of hearing global warming this, going green that, and seeing all of the commercials trying to get you to buy products that are supposedly promoting going green. This isn’t a gimmick, scientist didn’t make this up so that Zephyrhills can sell more of their new eco-friendly bottles, the talk about global warming is everywhere because it is real and it is important. Melting ice caps, catastrophic weather, and threatened ecosystem are just some of the ways global warming is affecting us. "Global warming is already starting, and there's going to be more of it. I think there is still time to deal with global warming, but we need to act soon. Humans now control global climate, for better or worse," James Hansen said Tuesday at an annual gathering of meteorologists. The way humans affect global warming is the by carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels, gasoline and other things. Global warming is affecting all the ice caps but in particular it is literally putting the artic on thin ice. Global warming specialists are watching the artic so closely because the artic is basically global warming’s the canary in the coal mine (“Global Warming Puts the Artic on Thin Ice”). Average temperatures in the Artic are rising twice as fast as anywhere else in the world, also causing ice caps to melt twice as fast. The melting ice caps affect the native people, plants and wildlife (“Global Warming Puts the Artic on Thin Ice”).
Global warming is also causing catastrophic weather. The planet is warming from the North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between. As a resident of Florida if none of this other information means anything to you this definitely should. Can you imagine it being any hotter than it already is? Along with the heat rising sea levels is one of the most threatening climate changes in Florida caused by global warming. Energy
