Distinction between the number of employment of production and service is used a main feature to describe a city if it is globalized or not. However global city has wider indicators to identify global city status. In that sense, my main point starts with how Saskia Sassen pronounces features and outcomes of global city so that I will use her arguments to evaluate if we can identify Istanbul as a global city or not. While I am trying to discuss about Istanbul, I will support features of global city in terms of my personal observations about Istanbul. When we look at the foreign investments and global firms in Istanbul, it is possible to say that there has been a change in the economic sector of the city since 1980’s. Specialization in the sectors becomes standpoint to understand emerging new urban class. For instance, in Etiler area, high-income people create new luxury lifestyle or in urban areas, create new aesthetic understanding of art.
