Contemporary Hero Essay.

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Those are the first words I read from my contemporary hero, Gloria Steinem. Alright, that’s not true, the first quote of hers that I read was “The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.” However, that didn’t seem like a very classy way to start off an essay. Today Gloria is still a major consulting editor for the magazine. She also founded “Bring your daughter to work day.” The first national day the revolved around young woman. Counting, with the subject of founding, she has helped found several organizations, not limited to, but including the, woman’s Actions Alliance, The National Woman’s Political caucus, Woman’s Media Center, Voters of Choice, and Urge, originally Choice USA. She was also the founding president of Ms. Foundation for woman. As a writer she wrote for New York Magazine, which she helped found in 1968. She also wrote as a freelancer for the New York Times, several other newspapers, magazines, and historic text books. She has published several bestsellers and received many awards. These awards include, The Penny-Missouri Journalism Reward, National Magazine award, Woman’s Sports Award, Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award, The society of writers Award, and many more. Gloria Steinem has been a modern day here not only for myself but many other woman as well. She has made a great positive impact on the world for female’s and still continues to do so, as she is still highly involved with creating an equal world for all
