Two 250-mL Erlenmeyer flasks were cleaned and labeled 1 and 2. The two empty flasks were they weighed and recorded. Then a Mortar and Pestle was used to crush up the Vitamin C Tablet. Once the Vitamin C tablet was crushed it was equally divided into each of the flasks. The two flasks were then reweighed with the Vitamin C and recorded. The titration apparatus was then set up by placing the 50 mL buret in the buret clamp on the support stand. The 250 mL beakers were then labeled discarded solutions. 100 mL Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) was obtained on a clean 150 mL beaker. The concentration of the Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) was carefully recorded. The buret was then rinsed using the following procedure. 5-10 mL of NaOH solution was added to the buret …show more content…
Flask 1 was then filled with 75mL of distilled water and the flask was swirled until the crushed Vitamin C was dissolved. 3 drops of Phenolphthalein was then added to flask 1 containing the crushed tablet. The flask was then placed under the titration apparatus. The stopcock was then opened to allow a small amount of NaOH to flow into the flask. This step was then repeated in small amounts of 1 mL of NaOH. While the NaOH was dripping into the flask, the flask was simultaneously being swirled to distribute the NaOH solution and creating a light pink color. This process was then repeated until the pink color takes longer to disappear and the pink turned a darker color. This means that the solution has reached the point of the titration. The amount of NaOH left in the buret was measured and recorded. The titration mixture in flask 1 was then poured into the discarded solutions beaker. The NaOH solution in the buret was then filled with more NaOH until it reached 00 again. The second initial buret reading was measured and recorded. The titration was then repeated with the Vitamin C in Flask 2. The remaining NaOH in the buret was drained in the discarded solutions beaker and rinsed with tap water. The buret was then washed with distilled water and inverted with the stopcock open and placed in the
