Conclusion The purpose of the PTC lab was to test if you are a taster or a non taster by using PCR.
The purpose of the GMO lab was to test foods for GMOs by using PCR.
The procedure for the PTC lab is 1.Swish with salt water to get your own cells 2.Put DNA into micro tubes and put it in the centrifuge 3.Drain liquid and put chelex in and vortex 4.Put in hot block and 99 degrees celsius for 10 min 5.Resuspend liquid 6.Put in PCR machine 7.Make gel and run gel 8.Stain and take a picture of gel. The procedure for the GMO lab was to 1.Crush up .5 -2 grams of a GMO food squish it and add 10 ml in 5ml at a time of water making a liquid
2. Put 50μl of mixter into tube and add 500μl of instagene matrix to non-GMO 3.Repeat steps 1-2 for your non gmo sample 4.Put tubes in water bath at 95℃ for 5

In the PTC lab we found out that Elvin is a non-taster and that Averi was Heterozygous. In the GMO lab we found out that Doritos are GMO positive while the NON-GMO corn chips were GMO negative. In the PTC lab the data collected showed that Elvin can not taste PTC meaning he is a non-taster while Averi can taste some of the PTC meaning she is heterozygous. In the GMO lab the data concluded that the Doritos were GMO positive because the GMO primer binded with the Doritos at 100bp and that the NON-GMO corn chips were GMO negative because the GMO primer did not bond with the corn chip. Our results for the PTC lab are realistic because when tasted with PTC paper Elvin was unable to taste the PTC and Averi was able to taste a slight bitterness. The GMO results make sense because Doritos are not NON- GMO certified but the NON-GMO corn chips are NON-GMO certified by the USDA. Some errors that could have occurred in the PTC lab are Elvin was chewing gum during the lab which could have thrown off the results. Some errors that could have occurred in the GMO lab were cross contamination if we did not clean the mortar and pestle
