God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza was a funny yet very realistic play (in some ways). I love how they play at the idea that we, as adults, often describe children as being unrefined and sometimes lacking of social etiquette but in our most basic senses we can become as uncivilized. This facade of civility and coexistence in a civil society are the central themes in the play. I think the symbolism of the hamster tied in very well with this idea. His constant moving back and forth between the phone calls and the conversation at hand was great because his shifts were so clean and realistic. The other characters were also played beautifully but I definitely thought that there were some moments when they might have either calculated their actions and lines too much or might have slipped out of character. There were a moment in which I thought Michael, played by Trey Snow, broke character. They were all sitting around the table and he snickered while listening to the conversation that Allan was having and while the wives were talking. I wasn’t sure if that was a break in character or not. It was a funny scene but in my
