Golda Meir was an Israeli government representative and used her career to establish peace for Israel and its neighboring Arab nations as the fight for land between Israel and Palestine pursued. Beginning as a nobody, and a threat to men because of her high intelligence in her youth, she climbed the ladder to success with her stubborn allegiance to Israel, Judaism, and her people. In this focused work ethic, Meir took strides towards a peaceful state in her eyes yet contradicted herself by refusing to acknowledge Palestinians as real people and wanted only to have the land with the approval and acceptance of other countries.

Golda Meir in her highest political position was Prime Minister of Israel from 1969-1974. Throughout this reign, she was in a convenient position to aid or contribute to the disputes over land over the now Israel. She was nicknamed the Iron Lady with her rapid advancement in authority in the Israeli government. Being Israel’s only female prime minister, many women looked up to her as an example that women could accomplish great things just like men. Arabs however were obviously against her ideas of peace as they felt that Israel had wrongly taken over Palestinian land and that it should be returned. A specific action taken by Golda that rubbed Arabs the wrong way was when she defended the Israeli conquer by saying that Palestinians didn’t exist anyway so it didn’t matter if their land was taken over.
