Most of us eat more than is needed, and this leads to many illnesses, particularly due to excessive weight gain. Most of us are aware of the harmful effects of excessive food consumption, however, excessive consumption of beverages such as water, tea and coffee can also adversely affect one’s health and well-being. In fact, doctors frequently recommend moderation in the consumption of both tea and coffee for heavy users. People are not ordinarily aware of the fact that drinking water in excess of one’s thirst, can also lead to weight gain, and just as over watering of land can lead to water logging; excessive consumption of fluids can cause harm or damage to the human body. Water consumption should be regulated by the thirst drive, and over consumption should be avoided.
Stoicism in my opinion would be a practical ethical system in that “nothing in this world happens by chance or mistake.” It is this saying that implies that it is nature and the divine law that is in place. I believe that there are something’s in life that are under my control, for the most part, I have no control over other people, bodily functions, property or reputation.
In response to the “Golden Rule”, on one hand I would like to say this is an appropriate rule of ethics, but on the other hand, I tend to question this rule.
