“There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. “Good pride” represents our dignity and self respect. “Bad pride” is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance”. John Maxwell is an American author, who has written many books. His books have primarily focused on leadership. Pride can be good and bad, it all depends on the situation. Pride is what makes people proud of their accomplishments and helps the achieve personal goals. In the end pride is a bad quality to possess.

Pride is a good thing because it allows people to achieve goals. When WIlliam was born, “Everybody thought he was going to die, everybody except Aunt Nicey who had delivered him” (Hurst pg.169). All of Doodle’s family thought he was going to die, but he ended up surviving. Doodle’s family even had a tiny casket made for him. Pride also helps people to achieve self respect. “He didn't answer, so i placed my hand on his forehead and lifted his head. Limply he fell backward onto the earth” (Page 176). The narrator left doodle behind in the rainstorm and he got to nervous and died due to his weak heart. Pride can also cause a person to become arrogant. When doodle and the narrator went into the room the narrator said “It is” I said. “And before ill help you from the loft, you're going to have to touch it” (pg. 172). The narrator gort really arrogant and made doodle touch his casket before he would help him down from the bed. Pride causes relationships to be broken. “When the deafening peal of thunder had died, and in the movement before the rain had arrived, i heard doodle, who had fallen behind, cry out, Brother! Brother! Don't leave me!” (pg.176) Th ecarrorator expected to much from doodle, and they ended up getting separated because doodle couldn't run due to his weak heart.
