The theme for “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot, was that w is beautiful under the correct circumstances, but can become dangerous and deadly at any given time. Gordon Lightfoot was describing, even with the some of the most experienced sailors, Mother Nature can rip apart a ship and sent everything into the black abyss. The lake he was was describing is Lake Superior that “never gives up her dead” (l.3) when a storm rolls in. Even the most durable ships were were“bones to be chewed” (l.7) when the lake’s more disastrous and dangerous storms form; the sign was was“ the north wind” (l.16) that the sailors would feel would and know what was going to happen. He goes into details of the feeling that he was on a slide and the whole world was watching him “like a boy” (l.42) in a “box”(l.42). He explained that he saw “the world from inside” (l.2) and he couldn’t “stand it no more” (l.6). He asked “the rebel what the” (l.18) said because the he was in the same position with being in the spotlight as was “the rebel” who was James Dean and Corey Hart viewed himself as being in as similar position. Corey Hart viewed himself as trapped and with all eyes on him he believed that there people who were “laughing” (l.7) and “staring” (l.14) him. Corey Hart used poetic devices as metaphors to describe his feeling of being stuck in the public as the “boy in the box” (l.17) and that he could “scream and shout” (l.4) because nobody could or would listen to him. The “wolf [that] cried fox”(l.19) was people that tried to get Corey Hart to “come out to play” (l.21) and bring him back into the spotlight where he didn’t want to be. He needed to “pull up [his] socks” (l.16) because he needed to look good in the public eye so people didn't laugh at him and stay there for a long time. He went into great details to describe that feeling and how he felt uncomfortable to be there. The feeling of being famous is want everyone wants, but it is not for everyone and being the center of attention was not to Corey Hart’s tastes and would rather be unknown than be a “boy in the box”
