Reading Reaction #2

From the first section of chapters we have read, comparing to this section we had to read, the last section had a lot more action and also was not as boring as the chapters that we have read for section two. More events had happened in the first ten chapters, like the introduction of all of the characters and finding out about the main character, Tom Joad. Finding out about Joad and how he is fresh out of prison for conspiracy to murder, when he apparently was not apart of the murder, and also after the Joad family being kicked off their land by the bankers leads Tom Joad and his family to move to California. For chapters 11-18, to be completely honest, it was the most boring and long and repeated chapters of the same topic of the Joads experience of driving down California. Though there are many different experiences that had happened to Joad, but the main thing that was mainly emphasised through the text was route 66. What was emphasised about the route, was the heat of the ride. Heat exhaustion had started to hit, and in the text repetition had started to occur to show how badly the need of water was. Repeating his self by saying, “Danny wants a cup of water,” (p. 165) shows the need and want for water and how bad the conditions were on the highway that Al and Tom had to endure on route 66.
